Swiss International Air Lines Upgrades First Class Dining

Swiss International Air Lines has been known to push the culinary envelope previously with the Pop Up Restaurant Concept with Andreas Caminada (News -November 24, 2014) and the Taste of Switzerland Program (News – March 4, 2015). Starting on September 2, 2015, its long haul First Class passengers will experience new culinary adventures.

Swiss International Air Lines named the new concept the SWISS Connoisseur Experience where long haul passengers will have an opportunity to sample new dishes every 2-4 months on a limited two week basis.

The first feature will be “SWISS Steakhouse” starting to September 2 to 15, 2015 and include the following special meat and salad choices:

  • Caesar salad with croutons, Parmesan and anchovies or an iceberg salad with blue cheese, tomatoes and chives, all served fresh at the table.
  • Main course can be chosen between Australian wagyu beef, an Irish Angus fillet or corn-fed chicken breast, served together with such steakhouse classics as potato gratin, baked potatoes, spinach or grilled corn.
  • Dessert would be provide by an original American cheesecake recipe.

In November 2015,  truffle will be introduced. In particular, Swiss International Air Lines will focus on the white Alba truffles. Cabin staff will grate truffles at the passenger’s seat onto their truffle carpaccio, truffle soup or truffle pasta meal.

February and May 2016 will feature seafood and caviar. Seafood will include specialties like lobster, crayfish and Coquilles St-Jacque. The caviar experience would include  Sevruga, Prunier and Switzerland’s own Oona caviar from the Tropenhaus Frutigen region.

Swiss International Air Lines is not the first to offer a heightened culinary experience for passengers. Its French neighbor Air France has also been commissioning creations from three Michelin starred chef Anne-Sophie Pic (News – August 4, 2015).  In addition, the airline will be introducing a new First Class on board its Boeing 777-300ER starting in Summer of 2016 (News – July 9, 2015).
