Throwback Pictures Of The Week – Vintage Airports

For the next few weeks, we will dedicate throwback pictures to vintage airports. We will pick a picture from each continent to showcase. This week, the featured image is from Asia’s Taipei International Airport (IATA Airport Code – CKS). The picture was taken in the 1980s.

From the Americas, we have the iconic TWA JFK terminal which is famous for its futuristic exterior and interior designs. The inspirational terminal is no longer in used commercially. However, you can take a tour of this terminal once a year as part of the Open House Tour scheduled in October.  The picture below is taken from the tour in 2013 and posted in Doobybrain.

  1. Great Throwback Thursday. Note that the architect of the TWA Flight Center at JFK New York was Eero Saarinen. At the same time he was designing the TWA Flight Center, his firm was also designing IAD Dulles International Airport. In fact, the legal address of IAD is One Saarinen Way, Chantilly VA.

    1. The TWA Flight Center at JFK is definitely an inspiration for many future airport designs. Thanks for your inputs.
